In addition to implementing training programmes itself, ERA continues to develop standard training materials, self-standing e-learning courses, e-presentations and other resources that can be reused by national training actors.

Training modules on behalf of the European Commission’s DG Environment
In the framework contracts with the European Commission’s DG Environment, ERA has been developing a series of training materials targeted at the judiciary since 2013. These comprehensive, standard-setting training materials promote interactive and participatory learning methods and are designed for easy reuse. The entire training package is accessible online to any party or institution interested in organising training in these areas of law. By 2025, ERA had finalised six sets of training modules. The module on wildlife trafficking, deforestation, and illegal logging was made available in English, alongside customised versions in Italian and Spanish. Subsequently, the previously developed modules were utilised to create general modules in various languages. Specifically, modules produced in 2024 on Access to Justice, Nature Protection, Introduction to EU Environmental Law, and Environmental Impact Assessment Requirements served as the foundation. Consequently, four general training modules were developed on these topics: one module on Nature Protection and Access to Justice in Romanian; one on Introduction to EU Environmental Law and Environmental Impact Assessment Requirements in Slovak; and one on Access to Justice in Environmental Matters and Environmental Impact Assessment Requirements in Italian. An update of the general air quality and noise training module, created previously, was conducted during the summer, with the updated version subsequently made available in Polish, Italian, and Spanish. The general training modules were further enhanced with customised sections addressing Polish, Italian, and Spanish air quality and noise legislation.
E-Presentations
E-Presentations – film recordings made at ERA events combined with embedded background documentation and a self-assessment quiz – prolong the life of ERA’s live programmes in online format. In 2025, 115 new e-presentations were produced, bringing the total catalogue to 1,143. For each e-presentation, a basic version is available for free on ERA’s YouTube channel, and a premium version with added functionality, including the possibility to obtain a certificate to meet continuing professional development (CPD) obligations, is available on the ERA website for a modest fee.
ERA produced a further 102 e-presentations in the framework of EU-funded projects on environmental law, anti-discrimination law and gender equality; #Digitalisation and #AI; as well as European criminal law for defence lawyers or detention alternatives, mutual trust and mutual legal assistance. In addition to English, some of these e-presentations were produced in Italian, Slovak, Bulgarian, Romanian and Lithuanian.
E-Courses
In 2025, ERA translated their basic course on EU criminal law into Albanian and Ukrainian and the basic course on EU institutional law into Serbian. They are available for free on the ERA website.
In addition to the distance-learning resources available on its website, ERA regularly develops bespoke e-learning solutions for EU institutions and other clients. ERA has fulfilled a service contract with the European Parliament to create bilingual e-learning modules aimed at lawyer-linguists. In 2025, a course on EU Criminal Law was developed in English and Dutch. This course serves as a guide to the fundamental characteristics of EU criminal law, providing an overview of its scope and limitations.
ERA has successfully applied for the continuation of the framework contract in which 8 courses will be developed between 2026 and 2030. In 2025, the two courses Introduction to EU Anti-Discrimination Law and Introduction to EU Gender Equality Law were translated into Spanish. They are now available in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish. In 2026 ERA will also launch a Polish translation of the course. On environmental law – there are six new courses in five different language versions, which are publicly available on the websites of both ERA and DG Environment.
Thanks to its investment in e-learning in previous years, ERA is well-placed to respond to the rising demand for online training solutions in the post-pandemic landscape.
